Event Description:
OLCDC's homebuyer education workshops are designed to guide first-time homebuyers step by step through the home buying process. Workshops are FREE, but reservations are required. One-on-one counseling with an OLCDC certified Housing Counselor is also available.

During each 8-hour homebuyer education workshop, attendees will hear presentations from industry professionals—lenders, realtors, home inspectors, closing agents, attorneys, etc.—on the following topics:

  • Preparing for Homeownership
  • Shopping for a Home
  • Applying for Available Grant Funds
  • Obtaining a Mortgage
  • Closing on Your Home
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Home Inspection
  • Importance of Fair Housing, Predatory Lending
  • Credit/Budgeting/Identity Theft

Participants are encouraged to come to the workshop prepared to ask the facilitator and presenters questions throughout the day. At the end of the workshop, participants will receive contact information for the OLCDC housing counseling staff and the workshop presenters and may contact these professionals if they have questions regarding their home buying process.

Upon completion of the entire 8-hour workshop, participants will receive a certificate stating they have completed the 8-Hour Homebuyer Education Course. This certificate is required by developers and subsidy programs.

Please bring a valid photo I.D., proof of income (i.e., 2011 W-2, 2 pay stubs, benefits letter) and a copy of your pre-qualification letter if you have received one. These documents are required to receive your certificate.
